I'll have to check out the old-school Dr. Who episodes, if they have effects like that.

I still might check out this show too. Costume effects are becoming a lost art these days. I mostly look for "Tokusatsu" style costumes like the Power Rangers monsters. I realize this show is British and not Japanese, but if the creatures have the same kinda "vibe" I could see myself liking it.

And, I totally hope to see Teddy Ruxpin in a future article.

Mick: ;)

Tetsu: Actually, I wouldn't call the aliens low-budget at all! (Unless of course you mean that they use costumes rather than CGI.) But if low-budget costumes interest you, you should be sure to check out the classic Doctor Who episodes. In "The Planet of the Daleks", there was an invisible alien race that they depicted by having a bunch of human actors don hulking fur coats that covered them completely. Hilarity.

A Jem drinking game would indeed be quite fun. And speaking of classic shows, I stumbled upon -- get this -- "The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin" on DVD yesterday! It just doesn't get any better than that. :D

You know, I really wasn't interested in this show until I saw the picture in this article with the rather low-budget looking alien costumes, now I think I might like this show. Are all the aliens depicted through similar means?

Can't see myself playing the drinking game, though. Maybe, if I really get into it (I'm not much of a drinker, though).

Honestly, this really makes me want to make up a drinking game about either Code Lyoko, Jem and the Holograms, or KND.

I think of the three, Jem probably lends itself the most to a drinking game.

That depends -- how big is your mouth? ;) You could probably pull it off, although doing so in public would be far more damning to your reputation than brandishing a sonic screwdriver pen!

Well, given that the show aired last year in the UK and is just now making its way to US television, it's been torrent ready for some time now! It's definitely worth grabbing if you can't watch on SciFi, though you may want to check out some Doctor Who first to get some background on Sarah Jane. Without that, she may just seem like a creepy old lady with potential pedophilic designs. ;)

You might also be interested in a couple of the upcoming TSJA figures, though they probably won't be superarticulated (I'm guessing between 9 and 12 points, or 14 if you count the swivel/hinge hips as two) and are done in a 5" scale. I'm certainly looking forward to them!

sadly, as someone without cable, i hadn't heard of this show. but now i find myself unnaturally drawn to watching it and consuming alcohol.

i wonder if it's a "torrent ready" program...
