Chinese-Canadian PlayStation Imports!

In addition to an introductory commentary on the Chinatowns that I’ve visited in recent years, the latest article contains reviews of three import games that I picked up during my 2002 visit to Vancouver. I’m not exactly sure if they’re demo discs or not; with the possible exception of one, they all run for about the appropriate length of a demo before freezing. Then again they are pretty scratched, so that could be part of the problem. At any rate, while I’m not terribly sad about my inability to play further into the games, I would be pretty interested in hearing any information you have on them — particularly regarding Magnetic Power Microman: Generation 2000 — so do feel free to enlighten me. This goes for any info regarding the Microman anime as well. There’s lots of stuff on Microman Forever concerning the toys, but unfortunately little else.

I think next time we’ll have another food article. ‘Till then, ja! 🙂

  • Actually, Microman and Clockwerx look interesting to me.

    Anyway, i’m glad I’m not the only one who complains abut all the GTA clones (read this for details: http://forums.thetechnodrome.c.....hp?t=13120 ).

    BTW how does one post a link in the blog without having to display the whole url?

    Microman might actually be interesting, even though I’m pretty sure that it simply entails wandering endless corridors and occasionally fighting a baddie or holding circle to clear some obstacle. At the very least, I’d be curious to see just what kind of story accompanies a game about an action figure line! And ClockWerx has a neat intro, but it’s pretty much a straight puzzle game. Personally, I’d sooner play Freecell or Spider Solitaire. 🙂

    Oh, and to link something without displaying the whole URL, you do it via html — that is, <a href=”URL HERE”></a> with the text in between the tags. You can also use italics and that sort of thing as well.

  • Well, I was disappointed to read that the clay-animation was only for the intro and not the rest of the graphics. I was just recently thnking that more clay-animated games (other than the Clayfighter games) would be really neat to look at.

    Just a few days ago, I decided that the RPG (The one I’m planning to make after I finish the 4 games I’m working on now) would have clay-animated graphics, cause that might be fun to do. Though, I might actually use Play-doh or Silly Putty rather than actual clay, and the backgronds will be made of cardboard.

    This game will be called “Quest For The Loogie Tree”, and will be the story of a group of kids that are set out to reclaim a magic tree that coughs up magic loogies. And, along the way they’ll making many jokes at the expense of the mainstream game industry, and deal with weird characters like the troll that haunts the mall parking lot and a really really bad amateur reggae singer with delusions of stardom!

    It’ll be awhile before it starts production though.

    I guess the graphics for the rest of the game could be clay animation, but it doesn’t really matter given the size of them — your character is only like ten pixels tall! I agree that more claymation games would be neat, though. Most of the charm of The Neverhood came from just looking at it, and I did like the ClayFighter games a lot for that reason as well.

    This RPG of yours sounds pretty cool, btw! Any chance of working in a cave-dwelling, trench coat-wearing webmaster of an obscure humor and miscellany site? 😉

    L1 and R1 buttons are not used

    SQUARE: Flip
    TRIANGLE: NOT USED
    CROSS: Bound
    CIRCLE: Swing

    Most of those words are actually just English words they took and jap-icized into ‘furippu’ or ‘suingu’ or ‘baundo’ or ‘ribaasu’ .
