Scary-Crayon’s SDCC ’09 Want List!

Indeed — but first we’ve got a new Dusty Plastic HELLside comic for you to enjoy! Who knew Grim was well versed in beauty secrets, eh? I don’t plan on adding new backgrounds to all of these comics, by the way — only when I’m able to do so quickly and more/less easily. 😉

As noted above, today’s more substantial entry is Scary-Crayon’s — or rather, my, but “Wes’s blah” struck me as a bit lame — Five Most-Wanted Toys Unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2009. It’s really just me rambling on about why I want specific toys, which I understand could be quite boring! Or it could be really fascinating, depending upon your point of view and how much you care about why people want certain figures. And I’m serious about what I wrote in that article — vote for Fantomex.

Along these toyrific lines, I’ve got a guest Toy Haul entry over at Articulated Discussion — so you should check that out if I don’t completely bore you to death rambling about toys and why I like them in the SDCC feature. There’s also a similar presentation of my latest toy haul in my personal blog, but that’s more geared towards people who are fairly familiar with my obsessions but probably wouldn’t be interested in further explanation regarding the Who figures — kind of like how a girl might say, “Eee, look at my pretty new earrings!” but wouldn’t necessarily proceed to tell you about the mining and refining processes involved in their creation even if she was quite knowledgeable about them. That post does, however, have photos of Bacardi! Everyone loves Bacardi.

That’s all I’ve got for now — stay tuned for more Scary-Crayon content! I’ve still got that Spectare entry to post, and I’m hoping to start reviewing those Doctor Who figures next week… but we’ll see how that goes. 😛

You ended up directing me to Torchwood spoilers! GAH!

I guess it doesn’t help that I’m on season 1.

Good haul with the Who stuff. I got mine at Mikes Comics for a bit cheaper than WhoNA but I liked what you did with the adding in a bunch of cheapy figures to make your purchase more worthwhile.

    • Wes says:

Did I? OH! You mean the comment about Tosh. Yeah. 🙁 But at least that’s one less thing you’ll have to get angry about when it happens!

Seriously, how are you liking the show? Although I like John Barrowman, I think the show on the whole is pretty bloody awful — such that I specifically singled it out back in our best/worst of 2006 article. Series 2 is better at times (though I think the two or so best Series 1 episodes trump almost anything in Series 2), but it begins and ends on pretty stupid notes as well. And the stupidity of Series 3 is still quite fresh in my mind, so don’t get me started on that.

And ah, I do remember seeing those at Mike’s Comics after the fact. (How are the shipping prices there?) I probably would’ve ordered from WhoNA anyway, though — if for no other reason than that I wanted more werewolves. That toy is bloody awesome.

      • Newt says:

Shipping prices at Mikes are good because he lets you choose a wide variety of shipping options. People from WhoNA got their stuff faster (I once got an order the same freaking day from those people!) but I got a little better price on it.

I find Torchwood to be alright. I don’t think it’s the greatest show ever or anything. Then again, I’m less cynical than most. Some of the things I’ve heard people complain about the show, doesn’t really bother me (such as the characters being moral-less) but it’s a bit slow at times.

But I’m fine with the show. It’s like mindless brain candy sci-fi and that’s alright in my view. But I’m only like a few discs in.

    Pertwee. Will. Be. Ours.

    • Wes says:

      Yes. He. Will. 🙂

      • Mickelodeon says:

Can I call on your awesome services again, should Pertwee be sold similarly to Hartnell and Troughton? Pretty please? =) *queuing up the world famous kazoo music*

        • Wes says:

You may! Though I’m not sure you’ll need to — it looks like the mad dash for figures was limited to WhoNA, as they remain readily available at other online stores. And considering that I still haven’t opened Hartnell yet (so I must not have been in that much of a hurry!), I may just end up ordering Pertwee from Impulse for the free shipping. 🙂

If they’re still around, I might have to consider grabbing one of those blue-clad 6th Doctors too… even though Colin Baker is so not my favorite Doc.

  • Monte says:

I’d never seen Cybertronian Ratchet before.

Man, that series shoulda lasted longer…

    I never did score a Wreck-Gar.

    • Wes says:

Yeah, Wreck-Gar was pretty elusive! I saw one once, but I wasn’t all that interested in him.

      Animated should have lasted forever.

  • Fauna says:

Geez, someday I’m gonna get into Comic-Con…or at least any convention. There’s only about four different conventions in the entirety of Canada, and they’re all at least 500 miles away from me.

But, anyway! The one toy I really wanted out of Comic-Con was a deluxe Rick Hunter figure (of Macross/Robotech) with changeable hands and facial expressions.

    • Wes says:

Conventions can definitely be fun, but they can also be kinda boring — and I really think the Internet’s made them less exciting. Like, back before eBay, the dealers’ rooms were amazing because you could see all of these cool import products and other stuff you never knew existed… but now you can kinda get the same thing by keying in certain search terms and browsing online figure galleries. And while you have to pay for shipping to order said items, even that doesn’t compare to convention admission costs nowadays!

I hadn’t noticed that Rick Hunter figure before you mentioned it, but that does look pretty cool. 🙂
