The Spectacular Mary-Jane Rescue!!!

Some of you may remember our review of The Amazing Spider-Man way back in March. Given my less than satisfactory experience with the game, I hadn’t really ever planned on playing it again — but in browsing the site referral logs, I noticed that the article had been linked in this Wikipedia entry. Following the other links there eventually led me to the Spidey forum thread at abandonia.com, where I learned that there is a way of getting to the lower level of the final screen from the very beginning. So I fired up D-Fend and entered the game once more… thus setting the stage for today’s return to The Amazing Spider-Man. You may never be able to beat this game legitimately, but at least you can see the ending! Not that you need to actually play it to be able to do so, since I’ve pretty much included the final screen in the review. Fear the hearts of doom.

Speaking of Wikipedia stuff, this revisit to the game prompted me to read up about Mysterio on the site… and holy hell this dude is fucked up. Greg of Pop Arena and I sort of have a longstanding argument concerning the comparative greatness of Venom and Mysterio — and prior to reading this entry, I found it almost inconceivable that anyone would regard Mysterio as being anything more than a third-tier Spider-Man villain. That may still technically be the case, but I can’t think of any villains that would include convincing the hero’s love interest that she has HIV in their evil schemes. Then again, it’s been a while since I’ve been a regular reader of comics — things have gotten pretty crazy since then! Crazy stupid, that is.

All for now, then — until next time, minna-san.

  • Stacked blue girder limbo is the place for me.

It?s nice seeing the recent slew of Scary-Crayon updates. I may have said it before, but I really liked the concept of the piece you did where you walked around your hometown and got food from different places. It?s not necessarily the novelty of the edibles that attracted me, but seeing more of your personality and getting a firsthand look at where you call home.

I enjoyed the Robot Chicken parody of It?s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown for the most part that you recommended. I thought the parts with the ?Great Pumpkin? were kind of lame, and seemed tacked on; but, I really like when they satirized actual elements from the series, like Lucy and the football and the weird indistinguishable language of adults.

We are in Halloween Week, in a site called SCARY Crayon, and we get a friggin cheat for a Spider-Man videogame?

This is HALLOWEEN! Where’s the horror? Where’s the terror? Where’s Freddy and Jason and Michael and Chucky? Where are the reviews for insane, fucked-up movies featuring zombies and cat people?

  • Wes says:

Dude, did you read that Wiki entry? Mysterio is like horror personified.

As far as reviews of insane, fucked-up movies featuring zombies and cat people, check the Spectare archives! But as much as I’d love to supply more Halloween-themed goodness, I doubt I’ll have time to get to much of that stuff within the next week. Sorry. 🙁 I may fit a Foodstuffs piece in, though. It won’t be explicitly tied to Halloween, but it just might scare you!

Besides as you’ve noted, the site is called Scary-Crayon — so that kind of stuff is fair game year round. Halloween is every day ay ay ay.

Funny you should mention your article being linked on the game’s Wikipedia article – I’m the one who added that link to the article.

  • Wes says:

Well, thanks, Kacy! 🙂 I understand that it is very bad for people to encourage others to link their articles and stuff, but I do think that there are quite a few places in the Wiki that Scary-Crayon could and should legitimately be linked… heck, I’d add them myself if I didn’t want to potentially break the vanity rules.

Someday I hope that SC earns its own Wikipedia entry. 🙂

Beast Boy and Terra get my vote for top cartoon character couples, btw. Maybe Leonardo and Lotus/Karai, too…

  • Put me down for Code Lyoko’s Jeremie and Aelita.

Haha, awesome.. I discovered that cheat thingy years ago without the benefit of the internet.. Always thought I had to jump from the helicopter to the next screen over to the right.. oh how wrong I was.. and now i’ve finally finished the game! =D

That might officially be the strangest comment yet.

  • DrNightmare says:

Is this game impossible because of a design flaw? Or is it impossible because you can’t stop laughing at how fucking stupid Mysterio’s plans are? xD
