Yet another Hot Flash ‘n’ Haiku combo!

As always, apologies for the site hiatus! I wish I had some more exciting excuses, but honestly? I’ve been quite distracted by the US Presidential race these days. Things are looking very good for Barack Obama at the moment — let’s hope his lead in the polls continues to hold!

Anyway, today’s a bit of a quickie update: it’s just Dusty Plastic HELL: Hot Flash #106 and A Crayon Haiku #82. In keeping with some of our comics from last season, expect more “Heroes” Hot Flashes in the future. And as for the haiku, can you believe it?! Figures without stuck joints?!?!? Even when I was ultimately able to free up the joints without breaking the toy, it feels like it’s been forever since I bought a fairly well-articulated figure (Transformers excluded) that didn’t need to be immersed in microwaved water or given a time out in the freezer before I could actually pose it. If we’re talking streaks, we’re only at two — Giles and Anders came later, but I got the White Ranger on the same day as Ann O’Brien of the Legendary Comic Book Heroes line, and she needed quite a bit of hot water fun to free up her joints and correct the warping of her left arm that took place in the package. Though technically I got the White Ranger after Ann O’Brien on that day, so maybe he should be counted in the streak! At any rate, I will definitely be pleased if my next figure purchase continues the trend.

And upon looking up some info on the White Ranger, I find it really odd and interesting that the only other “official” Power Ranger I own — the Black Dino Ranger, which was given to me by a friend — is the same guy. That’s so wild! I know very little about Power Rangers these days, but they’re among the best action figure buys around now with all of the other toy lines increasing in price. And whereas it’s nearly impossible to find the new Marvel Legends and DC Universe figures in this area, Jungle Fury Rangers are pretty much guaranteed to be in stock! I’m going to have to keep my eyes peeled for the Rhino Ranger.

And finally, my birthday was last Saturday — so while I feel less and less inclined to do stuff on Scary-Crayon proper for that sort of thing, feel free to swing by my blog and check out the birthday photo post containing various Wes baby and toddler pictures. I was adorable, was I not?

And oh! INTERROBANG STUDIOS is back in action, so go check it out! I actually have more links to plug, but I really think I should bring this entry to a close. I hope to have more updates soon, though! Until then. 🙂

  • Well they’re only both the same guy in the American version.

Actually, I do remember seeing the commercials for “Dino Thunder” about Tommy returning as they’re teacher. I wanted to start watching Power Rangers again because of that, but it’s time-slot was way too inconvenient.

It’s funny that you posted something Power Ranger related, though. Because I’ve been on something of a Power Ranger kick lately because of all the great Power Ranger parodies on the net.

In fact, Chris Niosi finally posted the first installment of “Super Freakin’ Parody Rangers: The Movie” (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/462653).

Recommended only if you saw all three episodes of Parody Rangers, remember the MMPR movie well, don’t mind watching a feature length flash movie broken up into 5 minute segments, and have the sense of humor of a 12 year old (I qualify wonderfully).

Anyway, How recent was that White Ranger toy made anyway? I’d be surprised if they’re still making toys based on that version of PR.

I think I’ll pass on the SFPR movie — I haven’t seen those Parody Rangers eps and don’t remember the MMPR movie well at all, though I did see it in the local budget theater as a kid. I also have it on DVD, and I sat down to watch it once, but it annoyed the flip out of me 15 minutes into the film so I popped it out and watched TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze that evening instead. Maybe one of these days I’ll try again… and since I have the Turbo movie on DVD as well, I could make a marathon of sorts of it. 😛

That White Ranger is from this year, actually! It’s one of the Super Legends Collector Series chase figures packed in with the Jungle Fury figures — earlier this year they had the Green Ranger (ALSO the same dude!) and Zedd, and currently the White Ranger and the Gold Ranger are the coveted figures. I actually picked up the White Ranger with intent to use him for a possible Casshan custom, but I’ve found that I like him too much to do anything to him! He’s also got far too many protruding details, which makes him a less than ideal Casshan base.

Anyway, I recommend the figure — especially since you’re such a Ranger fan — so grab him if you see him! 🙂

  • The Green Ranger is my favourite incarnation of Tommy. So much conflict and angst that was abandoned when he became the squeaky-clean White Ranger.

But, just think he’s been the Green Ranger, the White ranger, The Red Zeo Ranger, and the Black Brachio Ranger.

I suddenly hope that, when I get old, I get to watch a geriatric Jason Frank as a very elderly Tommy Oliver that magically transforms into a young healthy Power Ranger in what ever version of Power Rangers I end up annoying my fellow nursing home residents with in the future.

Anyway, I’m surprised you didn’t make it past the first 15 minutes of the movie. I kinda consider the MMPR movie to be one of the highlights of their heyday, and one of the few advantages PR has over it’s Japanese Super Sentai counterpart (which I usually prefer).

Ivan Ooze is one of my favourite movie villains ever.

I only saw the Turbo movie once, but I’m about to rectify that (I just found it on Youtube, and I have no better ideas on how to spend the night). I’m surprised they’re both on DVD. Are any cool bonus features?

BTW I’m developing a flash series right now. Want me to send you an E-Mail about it?

They made White Ranger Tommy too. I must find him!
